George Hone was born in 1810 to George and Ann Hone in Buckinghamshire, England, the third of seven children.
Mary Boss was born in 1833 to Sarah Boss in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England. She grew up with a stepfather and younger half-sibling.

George and Mary married in 1833 and lived in a few different villages near Banbury.

Descendants
- Sarah lived in Coventry, England and had one daughter before her death.
- Caleb and his family remained in Greater Manchester for a few years before immigrating to Utah in 1874.
The family in Utah was primarily anchored in Benjamin. David, George, Mary Jane, Joshua, and Henry all spent some time there. In addition:
- David spent the early years of his marriage in Provo, and after his children were grown and his wife died, remarried and moved to Los Angeles.
- George also spent the early years of his marriage in Provo, and after his children were grown retired with his wife to Payson.
- Emma lived in Provo and had one surviving daughter when she died there.
- Mary Jane spent the early years of her marriage in Springville.
- Joshua eventually moved with his family from Benjamin to Provo.
